Profile Path - This one should be easy

This one should be easy, but I still can’t figure it out. When a user goes to their profile (members/profile) no problem. The url format is: example.com/members/profile.
If the member wants to edit their profile and clicks on anything in the profile page (edit profile for example) they get a 404 error with the url format: com/index.php/member/edit_profile/. If I delete the “index.php” in the address bar, it works fine. What do I need to do to remove the “index.php” from the url’s?

Sounds like you have removed the index.php with .htaccess since without the index.php it should NOT work.
So I would look towards your .htaccess rewrite rules or hack up member profile templates.

Thanks Lebisol, that was done with LG Htaccess generator extension after trying to accomplish it on my own. So far what I get is I can either logout and not edit the profile or I can edit the profile and not logout. From here I am not sure what to do with the htaccess file to get both working. Not sure what to hack on the profile templates. Any suggestions? As a last resort, can Expression Engine be set back to default and not have the index.php removed? At least it may work that way.
    Thanks
