i setup a user group but when they edit entrys the only status option is closed (diffrent user created it). I cant find anything in the permissions to allow them to change it. what flag has to be toggled to allow them edit and update an entry without the status going to closed?

Make sure the weblog in question actually has a status group assigned to it.
