    Hello,
I am unable to create .htaccess file. I create a htaccess.txt file in the public_html directory but renaming it to .htaccess is a problem. Can’t name a file anywhere beginning with a period. Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you

It is likely a restriction setup by your hosting provider. You should email their support with the problem and they can advise you further. Also, you might want to check their knowledge base (if they have one) to see if they have any docs on this scenario.

    Eric,
Thank you for your help. I have the file uploaded to the system folder.
Can you explain how I manage permissions? It needs to be set to 666 and I cannot puzzle it out.

OK finally figured it out. I had to do it at the server as you know.

What application are you using to upload your files? The answer will depend on your software. You can probably use the Help feature of your software and search for “permissions” and get some results.

Enginehosting, 1.6.8 + forum 2.0. NP++ and ExpanDrive. A capital combination all around.

At the server I find .htaccess.txt in the public_html directory. I set permissions to 666. The server path is correct, my user id is part of it.

When I try to install LG .htaccess I get the error message “.htaccess directory does not exist”.

If I try to install “blacklist” I get “Invalid Path or Permissions for .htaccess file”.

Is .htaccess a file or directory?

This is not a high priority but the site is launched so I need to a cure for this and a cure for my ee headache.

    Thank you.

.htaccess is a file. I’ve heard that EngineHosting has fantastic support so I would check with them first.
