We are considering doing our company site in ExpressionEngine because we use CodeIgniter for most of our web applications.  We want to make it easy for each person in our organization to have their own, personal blog.  Is this easy, or even possible with EE?  According to a review at Top Ten Reviews, this functionality is a ‘deal breaker.’

For functionality and flexibility, Expression Engine content management system software is a versatile option for operations large and small. If you need LDAP support or want to give a blog to everyone in your company or community, these could be deal-breakers for EE. In this case try Movable Type, which offers a lot of the same type of functionality but with a few crucial differences.

I did notice that this review is based on 1.6.6, and we plan on using the new beta, so I’m hoping something has changed that will let us do that.  Is this possible?

Hi, Nelson - Have a look at this kb entry as it will address your questions.

If you want to discuss this further, please send a detailed description of your project to sales and I can work with you privately on this.

my opinion on this (and i am not part of the EE team).
It depends on what you mean by blog and how you plan on managing each members of your companies blog.

In theory if you are giving them a separate blog, that would have a different appearance from the main site, and allow them to control their own blog like a microsite - then this would be a no no…

    but…

If they are members of your site and using the control panel or a SAEF to submit data to be displayed on your website which will be presented as content of your website then this is fine… You can of course then filter the blog posts to display entries only from that author - but they would still be entries on your master site. Then i cannot see how this would be a problem…

How you control the above - i.e. control panel access Vs SAEF will depend on you and i guess how many staff members!!!
