Hi. I am, section by section, moving a site from flat HTML/PHP files to EE. What I would like to do is keep the existing content static, as is, and any new content be inputted via EE. I need to keep the URL scheme the same as well. Is it possible to link to existing static content that shares the same URL scheme as an entry using the same template naming?

Here’s an example from a news section:

Current URL to static archived content:
    http://www.domain.com/news/2009/

    New content under EE:
    http://www.domain.com/news/

Under EE the template used for news would be “site/news”. And the site directory structure for existing content is /html/news/2009. Let me say there is a LOT (years-worth) of existing content that is not worth moving into EE but should still exist. Is this possible?

    Thanks.

So there’s no way to tell EE that if there’s no content in the DB at that URL to forward the request to the actual file system, say via .htaccess or some other method?

Now with that said, can I bring up one section online with EE at a time? Example being:

    EE:
    http://www.domain.com/news/

Existing static page not in EE:
    http://www.domain.com/aboutus/

Yes you can have existing static pages in concert with EE.
    I do it here http://www.umb.edu
We are constantly moving static sections into EE.

Just keep in mind that having a folder named the same as a template group does not play out well.

As far as using rewrites to manage matching folder and template group names. I don’t know.

Wonder how this will work using Structure and if I have all my templates in a non-conflicting group name.

On this page it mentions of having a file with the same name as a template group and to “keep names different, or add check in rewrite rules to counter.”

Using Structure and LG .htaccess Generator I was able to point to both EE content and static pages under the same domain, virtual or not. \m/ Rock.

LG .htaccess Generator is just to remove index.php.
