Hello,i have been trying to fix myself a solution but as i have learnt, everything boils down to spreadsheets one way or the other. There are several solutions online but google spreadsheets stand up in a field dominated by premium sheets providers.

Even if free, google spreadsheets do not necessary scream efficiency to anyone interested in doing a thing or two using the google spreadsheets api.First of all,the whole topic is explained using zend snipets of code and an awefull documentation.

So,my question is,do you use google spreadsheets and if so,do you also use google spreadsheets api, how, why and for how long have you been using it.

    Thank you.

I’ve used Google Spreadsheets quite a bit, as has my wife - but never even looked into the API, sorry.

I usually use Google docs (spreadsheets as much as regular Word-like docs) for basic business analysis, income/expense projection, even occassionally to analyze games 😊

It works, but I’m still not a huge fan of how its choppyness and responsiveness of the app can sometimes be more spotty than I’d like. I generally prefer OpenOffice spreadsheets if I have them installed on that particular computer, but they aren’t always available.

The Api part is largely over administered with various Oauth based protocols and php is supported through a framework with bits of code to explain some very fundermental things.I however like gdata in python, its faster and i have noticed is smoother than when using zend.I have found a a java software, but you’re gonna need broadband(mostly),http://www.sheetster.com . Its an open source web based spreadsheet server but since google has google web toolkit, google spreadsheets are faster because of the ajax. The company making the software have even a n opensource java spreadsheets sdk, which you could use with other things to automate most of the slow processes with ajax.

I think that it really depends on what you use Google spreadsheets for. I am working for a company called JSON Data who are making statistical management freeware (which is still in beta). It is very comparable to Google Spreadsheets but focuses more on Json users and front-end developers who are looking for embedding code into their sites easily. While for the everyday person, as of right now it might not be much more useful than Google Spreadsheets(should be in the future), unless you have a blog where you can import code. So while Google Spreadsheets is nice I am finding that JSondata is easier for real-time data management and code embedding. That is my take on it. I would love the hear what the rest of you have to say on this topic, especially problems that you have had with Google Spreadsheets that JSONData might fix.

I have been using Google spreadsheets for several years but I don’t see or experienced something wrong with it and it works really great. Actually, it helps me in managing my business and online documents. By the way, what is the thing about API that you’ve been talking about? Thanks.

Google Spreadsheets are working fine for me too. If they are not working for you then try Open Office spreadsheets.
