I am installing a second site via Multiple Site Manager, but the server administrator tells me there is no way to do a relative path for the path.php file, even though the two domains are on the same server and same client account.

quote: “I don’t believe there’s a way to get a relative path from one domain to another… it won’t let you jump across sites”

surely this is incorrect. i’ve installed two sites via MSM on Dreamhost and it was a piece of cake.

    the server environment is:
    Operating system     Linux
    Apache version     1.3.41

the admin couldn’t tell me that server info, had to get it from the cpanel.

    help?

    archer,

even though the two domains are on the same server and same client account.

In theory this should be possible. How are both sites setup in your folder root? Can you view both via FTP?

the admin couldn’t tell me that server info, had to get it from the cpanel.

That seems a bit odd that they couldn’t even tell you that information.

Can you do me a favour? For peace of mind, download our server wizard, upload and run it

thanks john, i ran the wizard and it all comes back “Supported - Yes”, but i knew that because the first domain is already up and running EE.

sadly the domains are under separate ftp logins, so no, i can only see one domain’s public_html folder at a time.

i am leaning towards suggesting my client leave this webhost for a more professional service, but that raises questions of extra time and expense.

any other ideas? at least i would like to finish out my clients pre-paid year of hosting before we move servers.

When you mentioned cPanel, are you meaning the cPanel the management portion of their hosting account? Or just cpanel meaning control panel in general?

In that case, and if the domains are actually separated from another, the MSM is not going to work.

You should be able to add a domain to one of the accounts, though.
