Just thinking it’s nice to share ...

I have used (and loved) this little free pixel-ruler thingie under Tiger, Leopard and now Snow Leopard- titled, aptly, Free Ruler. If you’re looking for a simple, elegant, no-fuss visual aid that won’t take over your workspace, check it out.

There is another one called Rulers ($) and, of course, there’s XScope ($). The latter is super-useful. There’s even a dashboard G-Ruler. But I’m good with Free Ruler.

    Excellent!
Likewise if you use Firefox there is an addon called Measureit which allows you to measure items in your browser - very usefull at times.

I use Free Ruler, and it’s great, but I also use some nice in-browser javascript utilities:

http://www.sprymedia.co.uk/article/Design —- provides ruler, grid, measurement overlays on a page

http://slayeroffice.com/ —- provides a nice list of scripts to help you analyse any page elements

I use those in Safari, mainly. Since Safari and FFox both use a resolution-independent zoom now, Free Ruler gets used less often.

I happened upon Slammer today. At first blush, it seems an extraordinarily elegant and useful rulers-plus app (grids, colors and other support) for OS X. Twenty dollars and I expect to be a buyer before the end of the trial period.
