Using MSM to launch new version of site

    Hi All,

Here is the problem: I have a client with a live site that uses EE. The client is launching a new version of their product and wants to launch a new version of their site along with it.

My plan is to create a new site in MSM, duplicating the current site. The client can then make content changes to this “staging” site (we can also make some design changes). On the launch date, we’ll then point the url of the live site to the “staging” site.

Before I go ahead with this I want to make sure there isn’t some glaring problem I haven’t thought about. I know that after the initial setup there is no easy way to move data between sites in MSM - but since I’m essentially making a copy of the existing site and launching it once, I think this plan will work.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Jenny

That’d work for you - not a bad idea!

Your major things to watch out for will be your site_id parameter in your weblog:entries tags (and other tags), making sure that all your templates are pulling their content from the second site.
