Hi, Gareth. We’re aware of it, thanks for the heads up.

Congrats and well done to everyone at EllisLabs!

Hmm. Bought the Freelancer, but I don’t seem to have 1.6.8 in my Download Area.
#95 / Dec 02, 2009 5:24pm
Download 2.0, it has a separate 1.6.8 folder.
Sorry, this does not apply to the “Freelancer” license.
#96 / Dec 02, 2009 5:30pm
Which folder? The ZIP only seems to have ExpressionEngine2.0.0_FL_PB1, unless there’s a subdirectory I’m not seeing.

Freelancer does not come with 1.6.8, as there is no Freelancer version of 1.6.8.

Oh, okay. Er… the FAQ really doesn’t say that at all.
I had a lapsed Download Account for 1.6.7 Commercial I was planning to upgrade from (I don’t really need .8 for itself, and never really needed Commercial). Is that doable?

I am really really confused. At that is not mentioned in your F.A.Q.
Is ExpressionEngine 1.6.8 still available? (*)
Yes, ExpressionEngine 1.6.8 will be available as a separate purchase until EE 2.1 is released.
In addition, if you purchase ExpressionEngine 2.0 PB you also receive download access and usage rights for version 1.6.8. The license allows you to use 2.0 PB or 1.6.8, so long as only one installation is “live”. This means you can start with 1.6.8 and move to 2.0 PB with no additional purchase.
This means you can choose between the time tested performance of ExpressionEngine 1.6.8 or live on the edge and participate in the ExpressionEngine 2.0 PB, whichever is more appropriate for your project.
After EE 2.1 is released, we will provide technical support and security updates for ExpressionEngine 1.6.8 for a long time. ExpressionEngine 1.x has a large install base and we expect the transition to ExpressionEngine 2.x to take at least a year. We do not want to rush or force a quick transition. Its more important that you have peace of mind in choosing ExpressionEngine and know that you can upgrade at the pace that is right for you.
At some point we will end support for ExpressionEngine 1.6.8 but we will provide sufficient notice before doing so. As a point of reference, we supported our previous publishing tool, pMachine Pro, for 3 years after ExpressionEngine 1.0 was released.
If this is true, I won’t be buying a license. As it was clear until now that I could use 1.6.8 as well as 2.0 as long as only one of which was live. 2.0 with a freelancer is pretty pointless than considering most all plugins will not support it for another 4+ months.

The FAQ has been updated to specifically state that the Freelancer does not include the EE 1.6.8 download. If this is a deal breaker and you’ve already purchased, please .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and we’ll refund your purchase.

And fail. Trying to install locally on MAMP. Installation screen is blank. Checked all the permissions.
Here on an actual server the same thing happend. I just waited for a while and reloaded the page. Worked for me.
After initial log-in though I am presented with the following error messages in the head section:
A PHP Error was encountered
Severity: Warning
Message: fread() [function.fread]: SSL: fatal protocol error
Filename: accessories/acc.expressionengine_info.php
Line Number: 162

Anyhow: great work guys and thanks a lot!

It’s not a deal breaker here, but does it still update from earlier versions? I’d rather not spend the weekend remaking the system I’ve got in 1.6.7 Commercial.
(Bleh, never type in forums while sleepy)

Yes it will incrementally update through all necessary version. Don’t forget to backup! :-D

Phew! 😉
Cheers!

What is the reasoning behind not allowing Freelance license holders a 1.6.8 download? I was going to buy a license but that is not the case anymore because of that. No support for any plugins I would use for many months so I have no reason to spend money on something I cannot use other than to learn EE 2.0 for future projects which I would still need certain plugins to implement the way I would like.
