I think this is a good decision!

To me, Public Beta says the core functionality is going to work and is ready for public use, but perhaps not all add-ons are ready and there could be some bugs that the beta testers haven’t yet found. If I have a new site, or a simpler site to build, I’d go for a public beta, no worries. If I have an existing site that hinges on some specific functionality or add-on, I’d test that out before jumping in.

    Public Beta says it all!

You said it much better than I did a couple posts ago! Thanks.

    Almost.

When you purchase ExpressionEngine 2.0 PB you will receive download access to both EE 2.0 PB and EE 1.6.8. You get a single license that allows you to use one or the other on a live site. This means you can start with EE 1.6.8 and use 2.0 PB in a sandbox, test installation, etc… and upgrade the live project from 1.6.8 to 2.0 when you are ready.

I’ve updated the Will ExpressionEngine 1.6.8 still be available after December 1st? question to clarify this.

Thanks for the clarification! Looking forward to purchasing 2.0 PB.

    Leslie,

Has a decision been made about the Core version of EE? Has the decision been made to scratch that version?

    Leslie,

We have made the decision to discontinue Core for 2.0. There will be a way to evaluate the full version of 2.0 on your own hosting environment though. EE Core 1.6.8 will remain available.

I have an account with 2 inactive 1.6.8 licenses—I decided to wait with updating the account until EE 2.0 came out.
Now, with the updated info on EE 2.0 PB I don’t know what I should do.

Will there (on Dec. 1) be an option to upgrade to EE 2.0PB for the announced price for inactive accounts? Or will I have to wait until EE 2.0 is actually released?

The published upgrade scheme will go into effect with the release of 2.0 PB, ie on Dec 1st.

    From the FAQ:

If you have an active Download Account for your ExpressionEngine license you may upgrade from ExpressionEngine 1.x to ExpressionEngine 2.0 PB for the retail price difference, $50. If your license’s Download Account has expired, simply renew it and you’ll see the option to upgrade the license to EE 2.0 PB in our store.

Count me with Erik in the confused bracket too.
I don’t have an active download account, but thought I could upgrade to 2.0RC for the $50.
I guess I’m not sure if I’m in the $50 category with my 1.6+ personal edition previous license (probably a question for sales?), but beyond that does that get me an active account for a certain time frame.

How far down the road can I keep downloading the updated 2.0 that’s where I got lost I think, when I invest the $50 if eligible?

Hey sorry guys, it’s a crazy black friday here, I should of just revisited the FAQ’s…
“You will be able to download the most recent version of ExpressionEngine 2.x purchased, including paid upgrades, for one year after the purchase date. This time resets every time you purchase a ExpressionEngine 2.x upgrade.”

If you did not have an active download account, the price was going to be $50 plus the price of renewal (totaling $69.95 Non-commercial, $89.95 Commercial) - that has not changed.

How far down the road can I keep downloading the updated 2.0 that’s where I got lost I think, when I invest the $50 if eligible?

2.1 will be a free upgrade, 2.2 will be a regular paid upgrade.

What will be in 2.1 that won’t in 2.0? Major features? Bug fixes? Docs? When can we expect 2.1? Thanks.

I can’t even begin to say how pumped I am for this to come out.  I really hope the member section for user sign-ups is improved…that will totally make my year if that part is easier.

Thanks for all the hard work guys.
