    Hi guys,

I’m currently studying a web development degree and just starting our PHP module and I’ve come across CodeIgniter and really love PHP and CodeIgniter, however, I want to use CI for my project but i’m not sure if I’d be allowed to.

I would have to clearly state what I had done and what is core framework. This being a hassle when the files begin to mount up - commenting everywhere my code is and what is the frameworks, it would make it extremely difficult as simple Active Records would the university say the query isn’t mine because it’s wrapped up pretty nicely.

I’d need some pretty good advantages to persuade them to allow me to use a framework, do you know any or have any opinions that could help me get them to allow me to use CI and jQuery perhaps.

I’m thinking - I’ll be learning more advanced PHP because I’m not familiar with MVC or frameworks and that’s a challenge in itself, never mind completely learning PHP.

    Regards,

    Jamie

    Hey Jamie

I would suggest you don’t use CI or jQuery and I understand why the university would be opposed to this.

I love CI and jQuery but I don’t use them because I can’t work without them, they just save time and hassle.

So I would suggest you start from the ground up.  Being in school you need to start with good building blocks and take the time to learn and understand PHP, JS, etc with and without the use of frameworks.  I would look at this as an opportunity to learn and grow as a developer.  Not that you won’t continue to use CI but that you will use CI even better with what you learn.

    Most importantly, have fun!
