As usual I’m doing something wrong and have no clue what it could be.

The template pair offered in the Wiki entry Export Entries works fine for entries that have no comments on them, but for some reason the only way I can get the comments to come along on the export is by exporting entries one at a time.

    I’ve got 988 entries I want to export…

I’m using the template code exactly as provided (except for the weblog name, obviously). What am I missing?

The problem is this: using EE tags, there is no easy way to output multiple entries with their comments on an index style page: comments are meant to go on a single entry template (which is why your approach works when only pulling a single article, I think).

Using an embed you should be able to get around that, though. If everything else fails, use an SQL query. Moving to Howto.

Well, when I set out to follow the setup instructions for the export templates exactly, it would have helped if I actually had followed them exactly. I’d forgotten to enable PHP on the embedded comment template. Having done that I find that it works as advertised.

Told ya it must be something I’d done wrong. Thanks, Ingmar—I’ll go hide my face now.

Ah, the number of times I’ve done that… Glad it’s working 😊
