Could EE handle a scaled down version of this review site?

    Good morning!

Just recently I stumbled across Whose View, and essentially it is a slightly larger version of a similar project I am thinking of doing. What I would like is to make a review site where visitors can post reviews on bars, restaurants, tourist spots etc. Whose View obviously does this (it’s a custom solution I think, not a product already in the market), but could EE produce something similar, without the bells and whistles?

    - User reviews (users can sign up then post)
    - Possibly an area for each user which lists their reviews, etc.
    - Photos/info on each of the locations
    - Possibility that owner of bar (etc.) can login to post deals or photos etc.

Any thoughts hugely appreciated!!! Or also views on what the above site does that EE cannot!

Edit: Sorry, would just like to add, I’ve used EE before for blogs and small business sites, but all very basic stuff.

    Hi, Gizmo -

Yes, ExpressionEngine can do this; the last one, with the owner of the bar posting is the only one that may need some custom coding, or just some thought about how to relate the owner’s information about the bar to the review, without taking over the actual review as its author.

The rest can be implemented out of the box.

Thanks for getting back to me, Lisa!!

I’m a little ‘worried’ about starting this off and getting it wrong; what is the best way, do you think, of asking someone for advice on how to set up EE for this task (or to get tips), or to find someone who might be able to do it for me?

Would users have to go through the control panel to post of the site, change their info etc.?

    Thanks!!

You could set up stand alone entry forms for front-end posting, and they can change their info through the front-end My Account pages.

If you wanted to work with someone, you could post on the Job Board or work with someone from the Pro Network.
