Continuing our behind the scenes theme from the last update, today I’d like to delve a bit into how we actually work on a day-to-day basis. This will give you some insight into how feedback from the beta (or anywhere else) is handled and how that feedback turns into work which turns into code which turns into something tangible for the community.

Fantastic update. The SCRUM video was very well done. Definitely worth the 10 minutes it took to view. Thanks!

Excellent post and excellent news about the Simple Commerce Module as I will need that to be able to try and port across my one and only paying plugin 😉

Very weird that you called the post “The Circle Of Life” as I was just playing that yesterday and figuring out one last chord that had been bugging me for ages. My Wife and I just celebrated our 9 year Wedding Anniversary and went down to London to see the Lion King and so that’s fresh on my mind. When I saw the post I thought “huh? you been reading my mind again?!” 😉

Anyhow thanks for a great post and the update.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

impressed to see major modules will be in the BETA i had a feeling this may follow as the rebuild of them would be no small undertaking. but soon the UI tweaks begin and at least you can get some visual feedback on the changes you are making as opposed the the many lines of code disappearing behind the scenes!!!
    Congrats and keep it up!

I am happy to report that the Simple Commerce Module and the Discussion Forum will be ready for Beta2…

Are there any improvements to the SCM or discussion forums for the 2.0 release?  I was really hoping to see a full-featured ecommerce solution for EE 2.0.

Something that handles multiple payment gateways and integrates tightly with the members module.

Sorry analog, while there are a few minor improvements to Simple Commerce, 2.0 will not include a full blown commerce solution.

Thanks for the reply.  I’m quite disappointed to hear this and I hope a full solution is planned for a first-party paid addon.  Currently foxee is the only solution that fills some of the gaps of the SCM, but it’s a “bridge” product and not a standalone add-on.

Can you provide any more insight into the direction/roadmap for ecommerce management in EE?

    thanks much.

I really enjoyed the article Les thanks for sharing.
This brings up 2 very important questions:
1.) Who plays the role of the “SCRUM Master” and…
2.) Do you make them wear Jiu Jitsu headband.

Our programmer has used a kanban board another agile development tool, that’s working out great for him, our “team-of-one”.

analog, we’ve consistently stated that 2.0 would not contain a full commerce solution.  It’s understandable if you missed that from blog entries or other forum posts, but I wanted to stress that we’ve not communicated anything that would lead anyone to that impression.  As for future plans, please see our KB article covering our policy on roadmaps.

Everyone’s commerce needs are so varied, I really can’t point you to a specific solution without knowing the work parameters.  If you’d like to post a new thread to start that discussion, I’d be happy to help where I can.
