I set up a new user group with category edit capabilities for my sites main blog.
Now the Super Admin users can not edit the categories for the sites main blog???
Any ideas what the problem is?
Thanks, Tim

Where are you going to try to edit the categories, in the Publish page, or via admin -> weblog?

Publish page. Now there is no button to add Categories.

okay, go to:
CP Home › Admin › Weblog Administration › Weblog Management › Edit Weblog Preferences › Publish Page Customization and make sure: “Display Category Menu” is set to “yes”

Hi Greg,
It is set to Yes—“Display Category Menu”. I am logged in as an administrator.

The System system says:
“There are no member groups allowed to edit categories. You may assign these privileges using the member group editor:”
“There are no member groups allowed to delete categories. You may assign these privileges using the member group editor: “

Also I tried upgrading and now the Update Screen does not show any button to update.

Not sure what the heck is wrong, just totally nothing works today. Weird. Any ideas?

TT,
There are no member groups allowed to edit categories. You may assign these privileges using the member group editor:
Lets deal with this first before moving onto your upgrade problem.
Goto the following page in the CP
Admin › Members and Groups › Member Groups › Edit Member Group › Your New Member Group
In the left hand menu choose Section Posting Privileges where you can turn on the option for that group to edit and add new categories.

Hi John,
Thanks for the help.
The issue is that the group Super Admins do not allow any changes to more granular changes. So this is where the bug/error lies. The Super Admins group should be able to admin everything by default, so it does not allow to make any “Section Posting Privileges”.
By default the Super Admins should be able to edit categories. Bug in the system.
I thought upgrading would fix it but now that does not work….... Any other ideas?
I see that a “broken fix” is to make a new member group with editing category privileges, but this is still a work around.
New ideas appreciated. Thanks! Tim

Can you as a Super Admin edit categories or is it a new Member group based on the Super Admins group?
When you create a new member group based on the Super Admin group then the editing category privileges are switched on by default. Is this what you have done?
If it is a new group then you may just have to simply goto
Admin › Section Administration › Category Groups › Edit Category Group
and give permission to the new group to edit the group

JD,
I found the clients user and password to grab the 1.6.8 upgrade and it worked.
Same error still. SUPER ADMINS can not edit or add categories in the Edit Categories list under Publish or Edit. I see that the system does not allow any controls for Super Admins to turn on “Can Edit Categories” as by default, SuperAdmins have all access.
I made a new group “Super Admins” with super admin access, log in as that new user, same issue. ????
Weird ???

Hi Sue - just filled out the form. The FTP info may be wrong - I have to get to my office to get that info. Thanks so much for looking into this. Best, Tim

I see you have upgraded to 1.6.8 in the meantime. Can you try replace your theme files, too, in particular Control Panel themes? The “Edit Categories” link is definitely there in your CP’s source code, it just doesn’t show.

I will replace the Theme Files now. Thanks! Tim
