    Hi Guys,
I am having some issues with the performance of my EE website. On average it takes about 8 seconds to load a page, I am hosting with Mosso so i’m confident that the server fine.

I have done everything in this post http://expressionengine.com/wiki/Optimize_EE/ and this post http://expressionengine.com/wiki/Reduce_Queries/ and although the performance has improved a little its not where I would ideally like it.

Is there anything else that could help? I’m apply to supply the web address via email or PM if you want to see the performance for yourselves.

    Thanks
    Gary

    Hi, Gary.

Let’s have you test with a new template that has just some text like “this is a test.”

    Does that template load quickly?

    Hi Sue,
    That loads in a second.

Then it’s time to see what else can be causing the problem. Are you loading in anything like sitemeter stats, twitter updates, anything that would cause the pages to look outside of your domain for content?

Do you have a link to the site you’re talking about?

    hi sue,
nope there is nothing external loading - its quite image heavy but nothing that i would normally expect to slow it down this much. i have sent you a pm with the link.

    thanks

In just general moving around, I’n not seeing any real delays. Can you email the link where you’re seeing this?

its the whole site, but TBH its been improving over the last couple of hours - could it be the cache of templates etc building up and having a positive effect on the performance?

Possibly. let’s have you comment again if/when you see it happening again.

chpops, is the control panel fast?  Also, what is being reported by the variable {elapsed_time} on the front end on the pages that are slow?  These two questions can help isolate how much of the speed issue is occurring during EE’s actual execution.

    hi derek,
yeah the speed of the control panel is ok. i have added the elapsed_time variable and every page is coming up under 2 seconds but its definately taking longer than that to render.

    thanks

What that indicates is that there are factors outside of ExpressionEngine (and thusly PHP and MySQL) impacting the render time, so further optimization to EE will net you little or no gain.

Have you used any profiling tools to examine the overall size of data being sent per page, contacted the host about the network and content delivery speed, as well as looked at how things such as JavaScript and CSS are impacting how quickly the browser will begin to render the page?  For instance, have you tried to move all JavaScript to the bottom of the document?
