Hey guys, been banging my head all morning in the forums trying this figure this out. Finally decided to start a thread…

The main problem is I can’t send any email via EE(Communicate, New Forum Activation emails, etc). I tried using PHP Mail and sent a test via the Communicate tab w/ debugging turned on and it threw back “Unable to send email using PHP mail(). Your server might not be configured to send mail using this method.” I coudn’t find a quick fix for this so…

I’m now trying SMTP (another guy in our office has an app on the same server that’s sending fine via SMTP) w/ “owa.mailseat.com:2525” as my server address and when I send a test via Communicate, it hangs up for about a minute then goes to a blank white screen, no debugging details or anything.

    I’d prefer to use SMTP

    Using:
    ExpressionEngine 1.6.7
a Rackspace server, XAMPP setup (Exchange account i believe)

    FlashBoyz,

You mention you are using XAMPP. Have you got Mercury Mail running as a service?

I’m not entirely sure, but probably not.

Have you seen the /system/utilities/email_test.php file? See what happens when you run that.

    Hey Sue,

I hadn’t seen that before. Went to it and tried to send a message. Error came back:

    Email Test Script

Error: Unable to send your email

just out of curiousity, am I using correct syntax on my server addres (owa.mailseat.com:2525) to get port 2525?

See, that’s what I don’t know. I don’t use XAMPP in any shape or form. This rules out EE completely, since it is a standalone PHP script.

Does your friend in the office have a similar script in PHP he uses?

Wow, ok I figured it out and got it working.

for some reason, I had to change the “$newline” variable in core.email.php to “\r\n”. Must have to do w/ our server setup requiring RFC 822 compliance.
