Free Themes, er I mean skins, no templates for EE

Hi All, looking for some cool designs and you see loads of free WP themes.
As a designer they don’t interest me, but my boss that’s another story.
He’s stuck with thinking DNN skins are the bomb. They are not any as sleek as some of the WP themes around.

Referring to EE though and I notice woo themes (http://www.woothemes.com) is going to offer EE stuff sometime soon looks like, just happened to notice that. Why are there so many Wordpress freebies I guess is the question, and what to do to dial up EE fans who are not designers?

ThemeForest is another decent template destination, and the html templates there are workable, worth a mention.

[self-edit]: sorry I see now Woo themes is on hold with EE templates until v.2 hits the road, sorry about that and didn’t mean to push any hot buttons. I’m just not versed enough in WP to convert anything from that school to expressionengine, my problem there.

After some reflection (lunch) maybe I’m selling myself short on being able to convert a wordpress theme to an EE template, it might not be in quite the $6 million dollar man fashion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HofoK_QQxGc (6-million dollar man TV intro lol) but ya never know… Not sure if say the WooTheme’s licensing would permit this for one of their free templates, I might just check on that.
Need to try porting a WP theme, assembling the xhtml bits is part of the trick, maybe I’ve got that covered though.
I’ll give a shout if I get stuck, everybody’s always helpful on that!

Two things: 1) There are many more WP users than EE users, make no mistake. Also, WP is free as in beer, so it naturally attracts the “disposable time, not money” crowd. This is not necessarily a bad thing, just saying.

    2) With WP you need a theme. With EE basically any HTML layout will do, and can easily be made to work with EE in little time. (That includes WP themes, by the way.)

No need to, I think. I usually just take the rendered HTML and paste it in an EE template.

You know, I never thought about that straight-forward approach. So I will quickly install WP, grab a theme and get the basics looking “right”, then Save page and put in an EE template to start.

    Seems too easy.

Either that, or you simply look for a (demo) site using the theme 😊

Ingmar’s right WooThemes offers demos, I’ld never use it unless they gave permission with the same licensing as for a Wordpress installation, likely they’ld OK it.
Plenty of Wordpress themes that have demo’s. My tool of choice is opening it in ExpressionWeb (read-only) then save, a browser should do as good a job. Change all the paths then to wherever you placed the free download php pages.
In the past I actually thought it necessary to go the route of having a Wordpress install, probably not necessary?

Aren’t WP themes necessarily GPL’ed? Well a lot of them are, at any rate. Obviously I am not suggesting you steal a theme, so make sure the licensing is OK.
