MotoNomad, we always post about them on the blog the moment the release is available, so you can subscribe to the EE Blog feed. Also your ExpressionEngine control panel will alert you if you log in as a super admin that a new version is available. There are not any changes to 1.6.8 that would result in incompatibilities with add-ons that worked with 1.6.7.
