How would I create a custom content type that shows deals/sales from stores? It would have fields like site, URL, deal start date and end date (this is not the same as publish date for the post), image, intro and details.  Also I need categories and tags for these. I think EE will do the categories but I’d need the Tags module, right?

    Thanks

I’d simply setup a new weblog, with a new field group and the required custom fields: a few text fields, two date fields. Categories and tags are separate, but easy enough. For the latter the Tag module would be required, yes.

Would that new weblog be automatically included in the site search?  Also, I noticed when searching this forum that above the results I’m given links to search other parts of the site - user guide, knowledgebase and wiki. Can I customize that to include my new content type?

    Thanks

That depends on how your search is set up, if it is explicitly calls weblog=, then you’d need to add your new weblog there.

Yes, the extra searches are done through some creative templating.
