A bit like upgrading a V8 to a supercharged V12?
Yes, but perhaps with improved gas mileage, a rust proof exterior, and better handling.
I ain’t payin’ for no undercoat!

I like the idea of packages. Will the packaging process be openly documented? And will developers be allowed to apply the packaging methods to other Codeigniter based projects?
Cuz, that would be awesome!
As a CI developer and EE deploy-er(odd word, but I’m not a very gifted designer, and I haven’t developed for EE. I install and configure EE, set up templates, establish “Channels” and such, then implement the design work of others, therefore I deploy EE… 😉, I am keenly interested in using the way you all have developed EE on top of CI as a guide for CI best practices.
I have a suspicion that having CI as the base of EE 2.0 will encourage me to develop for EE.
Thanks to the EL team for the continued hard work.

Oh, of course, since it is the defacto way to build add-ons in EE 2.0. And in fact, it already is documented for Kaylee participants.
And will developers be allowed to apply the packaging methods to other Codeigniter based projects?
Yes, though it will evolve a bit before it gets rolled into CI proper.

mmmmmmmm… proper evolution…

You guys really know how to entertain and inform at the same time. Who said programmers are too logical for writing imaginative and thought provoking short stories with multiple layers. I love your blog posts! I can’t wait to see the codebase for this version with ci. The code in CI is so nicely and elegantly written it’s almost beautiful to look at. I can’t wait to see your implementation of modules, extensions, authentication and everything else with the framework in EE 2.0. Of course that will all be proprietary but it’s always nice to look at and get new ideas. The only other software that has helped me grow as a developer, other then CI is Interspire Shopping Cart but CI is better.
Looking forward to whatever the blog says on the 30th!

any official date for the release? 2.0?
I think Bmovie was thinking of the term I hear around here quite a bit, in the print shop… Drop dead date. It’s a quaint old expression, around here I think we are looking at a free beer date, but you all have already made good on a few of those 😉 Regards everybody.

I have hacked the code so the footer says powered by Expression Engine 2.0 that way everyone thinks I am running the newest version. I am the talk of the web community:) That’s right I got 2.0 without having to upgrade, anyone want the simple hack.
Ok so haha haha just kidding around but I really think when 2.0 comes out it’s going to give us all something else to talk about.

And there you have it. If you make sense of it, let me know. Otherwise, I’ll just be patiently waiting for Allard’s return on the 30th for more 2.0 news.
I know, i live in wrong timezone but i have no fingernails anymore to eat while waiting =)
