Custom PHP Code on EE Pages

I’m trying to determine if EE is the right solution for me and have been impressed with what I’ve read so far.  A couple of questions:

    1) Are there any issues with dropping in custom PHP or javascript code onto EE pages?  I have some custom functions I’ve created for very specific purposes and I want to make sure I can include them.

    2) Also, can pages live outside of EE, but within the same directory on the server, or will EE try to control everything under it?

I’ve run into some problems with these issues before using Drupal and I’m wondering how straightforward this is with EE.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Hi, Jim - welcome to the forums!

    1.  You can include PHP but you’ll need to enable it first.  JS is no problem.

    2.  Pages can live outside of EE, again no problem.  The “folder structure” in EE is entirely virtual.

    How about trying out EE?

    Lisa,

I’ve been thinking of using some custom PHP code within EE.
Can you tell us how to “enable” this?

    Thanks.

You can enable PHP on a template by template basis by going to :

Admin->Templates->Click on Template Group Name->Allow PHP? (For template in question)-Select Parsing Stage

More information on parsing stages in the documentation can be found here.

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
