if the lump sum is needed, then i understand.
i guess the other option is to a get a loan assured against the site! the same principles apply for needing proof of income, and interest is pretty damn cheap these days!
And this avoids selling the site - but if you have no time to update content - that is another issue!

Loan: no thanks. Been there, done that, burnt myself big time. I’ll pass on loans until interest rates become negative.

There is always Sitepoint Marketplace…. although I suspect there are horror stories from there. What have people’s experience been with buying/selling on there? Any EE users tried it?

Your content is a little specific though… might be a hard sell actually. But, if your site is making 20k/year, that’s pretty good. Are you making that money off your research reports?

Actually, in 2008 I had over 30K Euros coming in. I added up the figures and that was the result.

Yes, it’s almost all off the research reports. And yes, that is going to make this a hard sell. And because I need money fast, it’s also why I am not increasing my price. If I find someone who is enthusiastic about writing such reports, then I’m even willing to “stay on the board” for a couple of months to help them with the contacts, writing, etc.

I’m not going to pass by Sitepoint Marketplace or any other site auctioneer, for that matter. I’ve also put up GadgetWeekly.com for sale on sedo.co.uk—the domain only—and after a week I only have some 40 people looking at the domain and not bidding on it. What’s the use of looking at an empty domain, I wonder… So, not very helpful.

However, the contact (a broker) I got PM’d from gramps seems to be very thorough and he’s working on it for all I know. I hope he’ll be able to sell the site soon, for the asking price. I did get an additional request for information yesterday from a UK guy but he wasn’t even sure if he was interested—just testing the waters…

Anyway, I’ll keep you folks here informed. It could perhaps help some of you when you decide to sell a site yourself!
