Development progress is reminiscent of last week (as predicted). This is a good thing. The “Oscar approach” to transitioning Kaylee into a beta continues to go smoothly.

For the curious this includes code, docs, UI polish, and everything in-between. Of course, the question everyone is asking is when will the beta arrive.

We learned a hard lesson last year about public dates so we’re not going to do that until we’re 100% sure we can meet whatever we say publicly. But let’s just say we’ve whispered it internally and that is significant. I’m not being coy or a tease, I’m being honest and trying to strike that balance between transparency (which is good) and pre-mature disclosure (which is bad).

However, I do have a date to share with you!

... my vote is that whoever asks the first question, ask about members being able to be part of multiple member groups. 😉

    With love and appreciation,

Thanks for the continued updates, Leslie.  I look forward to seeing whatever you and Lisa show of 2.0 in July.

    I also second Michael’s idea!

We’re very pleased to announce that Lisa Wess and I will be hosting ExpressionEngine 2.0 101 at Train-ee’s Be True to ExpressionEngine event on July 13th-16th in Portland.
I want to be clear that I’m not saying we’re releasing EE 2.0 beta at the class or anything like that. I’m just saying we’re bringing Kaylee in whatever state she’s in to the event and teaching the basics to attendees.

Now either that sounds to me like we will not be seeing a release until after the 16th July. Or that it will have been released and they will be giving help on it.

All i can say is that it would be interesting to plot the number of responses to the EE2.0 news articles discussions, as it seems to me like a fast reduction in interest!

I sound like i am whinging, and that is not the case (1.6 is more than enough for me), however, i just would like to see something, considering I like a lot of people have been expectedly waiting (since Fall 2008 was it)!!! Perhaps the momentum is slowing!

    Perhaps the momentum is slowing!

Yes, we’ve been deliberately slowing it since last fall, something we talk about openly. We’re not the type of company that thrives on hype. Momentum doesn’t do any good until we can put the code in your hands. All efforts are toward that end, not generating “momentum.”

Also, speculation about the release just isn’t productive. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. The release won’t be a surprise. As soon as we can firmly commit to a release schedule, we’ll make it public. You won’t have to guess, we’ll tell you.

ouch, that sounds like it touched a nerve - not intended!!! I was just explaining that I was excited last Fall, and am still desperate in wait (as i imagine many others are)! And momentum was not in reference to the work speed - but the momentum of hype.

No nerve, just answering your question like we usually do 😊

I was specifically referring to “hype” as well. We’ve intentionally done our best to kill 2.0 hype. We don’t want it. We created it last year, saw the beast that it was, discovered it does bad things to our lives, and determined its not useful to us. It feeds our egos which can lead to bad decisions.

Momentum is something we do want, but we do not want it pre-release, we want it after the release, and we want it to be based on the response of people actually using 2.0, not on screencasts, teasers, previews, etc…. In 2008 we discovered we’re not the sort of company that works well with that type of marketing approach.

Looking forward to see the demo on video later.

As many other EE users I have waited for EE 2.0 for over a year (I think) and we in our company is looking forward to implement the new version on your large client projects!

It would be great with an EE-pro network alpha preview like the developer preview!  We are right now out talking with new clients about upcoming web-projects for this fall, and it would be great to have a alpha preview/test of EE to talk about!
