    Yes, I spent a few minutes writing that just for this thread, after being sorely disappointed that I had no other decent ideas.

    I hear that __to_reality() will be available in PHP1,947,903.* and up.

    EDIT: I think you’re replacement operation will give you tea in a coffee cup. How student-like. 😛 And urgh(!), granulated tea…

    Also, you’re not being ambitious enough, if you can create a class which can really make a cup of coffee(/tea), why not do something like

    $PMS = new PMS('project_name', 'project_description');
    $PMS->do_project();
    $PMS->charge_client(10000000000000000);
    $user->retire(); // user (aka me) is autoloaded

    Hey, it works with PHP 4, what more do you want? 😛 You’re a demanding customer, Dam1an.

    Demanding?!?! I prefer the term passionate 😛
    And I don’t care about PHP4 lol

    I’d really like a button that says “Finish Project”, which will do just that…
    Anytime will be fine, I’m not in a great hurry, yet.

    I think something which will actually do the project for you is a little out of my scope (and if it wasn’t, it would build the PMS for me 😛)

    TheFuzzyOne, the only living human who would write an entire class as a joke 😜

    I also prefer tea, and I’m not even from the UK.

    And I don’t think this is the first time he’s written such a class (although I’m probaby thinking of someone completely differant on these forums)

    Who said it was a joke? 😉 When the __to_reality() (or should that be __toReality()?) method is implemented, I think it will be one of the most used classes ever!

    It only took a few minutes, and I was using it as an excuse to take a quick break from what I was doing. I find that regular short breaks can really help you think. If I spend too long on something, I start over-thinking it, and a 10 minute job turns into a day-long chore.

    I was interested to see if anyone had actually tried running it. 😛

    You mean to say you’re giving me untested code? Are you trying to break my app?!?

    Oh come on! What do you take me for? 😛

    Of course, the code is tested, otherwise I would have said so. 😉

    Do you really wanna know? 😉

    On a side note… I hopy my supevisor has stopped reading this thread which was originally a serious attempt at some requirement gathering, but has since gone horribly off topic lol

    Please accept my apologies for that. My joke class was just meant to get a bit of a giggle, not change the topic. Perhaps I should export it a model $this->topic->change(), since it changes topics better than it makes coffee.

    I’d be interested in seeing how many people actually use a project management system, perhaps that would make an interesting poll? I for one, don’t. I admit that I should, but never really got around to choosing a good one and learning how to use it. The ones I’ve looked into briefly seem to be more complex than I’d like.

    How do you plan a project? Well, for me it usually starts with a single goal, which can be broken down into smaller goals, broken down into smaller goals and so on. I’d have thought the structure would be much like a forum categories structure, but I might be wrong as I’ve never really given it much consideration before now. Based on that, isn’t it just a question of adding data to that structure, and displaying the different data in a variety of formats?

    If anyone can give me a simple PMS, I’d probably use it. Will there be anything in your design that’s not already in most commercial products already? I’m interested to know whether or not you’ve thought of any new concepts - like keeping it simple for example - If I wanted complex, I’d be using one already.

    If you want simple, the basecamp by 37Signals is probably as simple as it gets, but I (along with loads of others) think its too basic. With PMSs you tend to get the 2 extremes, there’s the very simple systems such as BC, and then the mamoths such as MS Project.
    I aim to get mine in the middle, simple enough that it has virtualy no learning curve, and doesn’t have loads of stuff to get in the way, but advanced enough that it improves your workflow etc

    I’d also like to think I have a few unique things up my (metaphorical) sleeve, such as:
    Customizable Dashboard
    Most PMSs give you an overview of all your projects, but thats as far as they go, I plan on letting the user choose exactly what they want to see, so they only see relevant things
    This will basically let them build their own AR queries 😊

    Keyboard shortcuts
    Much like GMails keyboard shortcuts—Not much else to say

    Improved flow
    Many PMSs require you to take half a down unnecessary steps to do anyting, I plan to minimize the steps to do anything, fewer clicks, less time wasted, more productive

    Unique visual represetation
    Not sure how successful this will be, but its linked to the previous point
    I will be trying out various ways to represent data

    Layered functionality
    This was an idea which came from this thread (before it got sidetracked 😛)
    There will be a generic base, and then based on the type of project, it will tailor what features are available to you

    Thats some of my more interesting/unique features off the top of my head

    Thanks for the suggestion. That’s a pretty good example of a Web site that makes me think “wtf??”. If that’s as simple as it gets, I’m screwed. I think that essentially, what I’m looking for is more like a TODO list on steroids, but one that I can use on my own, and not have tons of stuff aimed at groups getting in the way. I guess that something like that doesn’t exist.
