I am looking to buy a program that will let me keep track of the usual things, time, clients, invoices etc.
Just wandered if anyone had any real world experience with either of these programs and would recommend one or the other or indeed any other program, after having a search around these 2 seemed to be the most talked about.

I just started using Billing Boss and am happy with it. My primary feature was the ability to invoice in multiple currencies which Freshbooks doesn’t offer.

In my humble opinion, GrantTotal is way better than Billings. Freshbooks has some nice features because it’s online, but overall experience, GrandTotal all the way.

Looks like you have to buy a separate application on top of that to be able to log time?

I’ve used both Freshbooks & Billings. Freshbooks is nice in that it’s online. And when it was just me with a few clients, it was fine. But I find their interface to be clumsy and overly complicated. Also, you end up having to do way too many workarounds for common payment scenarios.
I’ve since moved to Billings and love it. It’s the perfect solution for us. Plus, it’s beautiful (I’m an UI elitist).

I do not use the log time application, but my understanding is that it integrates seamlessly with GrandTotal. Also, it’s available in their bundle.
One of the great things about GrandTotal is it’s UI. I feel Billings relies on popups for every time you want to input something. This makes it clumsy. GrandTotal handles all of this in a pretty slick fashion without popups. Also, check out the invoice/estimate customization. Second to none.

For me I was leaning toward Billings 3, just due to price. It is $40 USD vs almost $90 USD. Is the niceness worth $50 to me? Except for the multi-currency, Billings seemed pretty good.

I used to use Freshbooks. It is expensive though when you start adding some clients to your account (unless they have changed the fee structure). I opted for Billings as it was inexpensive (in comparison) and ran locally. Plus it has additional functionality that I enjoy. FWIW I love it. I track my time. And emailing invoices is simple. The interface is even better in this latest version too. Well worth the money.
