Just verifying one other thing… If you have EE with MSM, you only need to buy one license of EECommerce and potentially use it with multiple sites/stores then.

Just verifying one other thing… If you have EE with MSM, you only need to buy one license of EECommerce and potentially use it with multiple sites/stores then.
That depends on your situation.
Licensing for eeCommerce is on a per ExpressionEngine instance basis - and yes, it does work with MSM.
However, by default, we’ve made the decision that MSM compatibility will be disabled. But, to change this is just a matter of us issuing a new license file with MSM enabled. We’re quite happy to do that - free of charge - but only once we’ve had confirmation from the customer that they understand the limitations and caveats.
The reason being :
As I already mentioned, within EE all users are shared amongst all sites in an MSM instance. Obviously, if you have different companies using the same MSM instance (but with different sites) you start to run into large privacy issues and issues regarding conflict of interest (you’d be effectively giving customers to the other stores).
In the majority of cases this is going to be pretty disastrous, which is why we’ve disabled MSM by default.
However, in SOME instances this behavior MAY be desirable. One of our beta testers is a multinational, running regional variations of their website from different sites within a single MSM instance. Under those circumstances, it makes sense to enable MSM.

Actually, that’d be against our license. The MSM license holder must be the owner of all sites on a single installation.

Cool. In which case, the situations where you’d want MSM enabled would only be where you need any of your MSM sites to connect to different stores/websites on your Magento instance. In the default configuration, all MSM websites will connect to the same Magento store/website.
I should mention at this point that we can’t synchronise user accounts across more than a single Magneto instance - because of the limitations of the EE membership system, we don’t know which users (at the EE end) belong to which Magento instance.
However, having said that, I can’t imagine a situation where you would want to use more than a single Magento instance - as Magento has built in support for multiple stores and websites.
So, to summarise - yes, eeCommerce is MSM compatible 😊

Has there been any movement on the project since Lee’s last post back in April. The eecommerce site says “Launching July 4th”
Any updates?
We’re still on track for our July 4th launch date, but there is also still a lot of work to be done.
We’ve also got a few surprises in store for you guys, which you’ll find out about on July 4th 😉

Not to diminish the importance and love for magneto but has there been any thought to http://www.cubecart.com/.
Many designers love this app and recommend it for its template system.
Thanks and looking forward to see what eecomerce will produce.

New developments with eeCommerce. A “Lite” version?
http://www.onlineprnews.com/news/2850-1246641848-eecommerce-pro-for-expression-engine-release-postponed.html
Lee, can we get some more information on this?

Hi Shannon,
Yes, it’s true. Following all the feedback we received from you guys we made the decision to release a “Lite” version of eeCommerce for ExpressionEngine as well as our Pro version.
We’re hoping to release an open beta of eeCommerce in the next few days, so that the community can give it a try and give us feedback on it, before we go live with the official first release. We’re very excited about it and have loads of plans about where to go from here. In fact you could give us a hand by going to http://www.eecommerce.com, clicking on the feedback tab and voting about which features we should concentrate on developing.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for listening to the community feedback. It’s great to see a lite version being produced. I’m sure it will fill a lot of needs.
Got any details about the Lite product you’d care to share? I have a fairly good understanding of what the Pro product was to provide. What’s the difference between the two?
By the way, it’s great to see that you guys are always so responsive.

I’ve taken this table from the new website to give you an idea of the major differences:
Home >> eecommerce features
eecommerce features
Features Lite Pro
Includes Mammoth WebServices X
Advanced caching X
SSL X
XML-RPC X X
SOAP X
REST X
JSON-RPC X
PHP 4.3+ supported X
Telephone support X
12 months support/free upgrades X X
There are others but the final bits of Lite are still being worked on, so I’m not at liberty to discuss them yet. Actually Lite was the reason that we had to delay our launch as we some of the development team that were working on Pro ended up working exclusively on Lite which meant that the workload had to be picked up by the rest of the team. The reason that we’re making Lite PHP4 compliant is that we’re hoping to get certification from Ellis Labs for it.
Personally I think that the most exciting part of the whole project has been the development of Mamoth WebServices, the possibilities it opens up are incredible!

No SSL for the lite version? Did I read that correctly? Can you explain that, since SSL isn’t optional for checkout? Do you mean just the admin panel isn’t protected?
I think you’ll find lite users adding SSL support regardless.

in eeCommerce Pro, SSL can be switched on (or off) both globally and on a per tag basis, so you can make it as secure as you like.
There are some tags however which we do not allow SSL to be disabled for - such as anything which contains a password or payment details.
In the lite version of eeCommerce you do not have this control - only the tags which REQUIRE SSL will use SSL.
Cheers

So excited about this. Please hurry up and launch!

Last night (actually early this morning) we went live with an open beta program for eeCommerce and Mamoth WebServices. There are still a few minor problems to iron out with the new website, the documentation and the software that we’re aware of, but we hope to sort them all out in the next few weeks. In the meantime if you’d like to trial the beta and see what all the hard work has been for you can get it from our website: http://www.eecommerce.com
Hope you like it and please let us know what we can do to improve it or report any bugs you find so we can fix them.
Many thanks,

i dont want to bash your efforts but im less than excited about this.
from the feature matrix you posted above it seems you *really* watered down the Lite version. none of those features are things i would immediately expect from an ecommerce system (apart from SSL).
lite / beta are very nice buzzwords but i think we just want something that *works* here and doesnt cost an arm and a leg.
sorry dude!
