First I know what a blog is and an article but what do you all say about calling everything a blog vs an article.  I am starting to think the article is more journalism based now and not main stream anymore.  The word blog is watered down from it’s original purpose, as with most things that hit the internet.  I have a site that has an article/blog feel, yes both and I am trying to decided what to call the directory that calls the blog/articles.  Any ideas, don’t want to have to back pedal, was going to let each one be in it’s on space, (eg technology in it’s own template group and so on)  I am starting to think that may be to much and bring in the technology blog/article to that section as need be from the main blog/article directory.  Any thoughts?

I think you’re right. There’s a dilution of terms. A “blog” is a weblog with a distinct definition and a history. An article has a longer history and a different definition.

A web site, however, is defined as a collection of digital content (text, images, videos, etc.), which, depending on the design and intent of the site may contain articles and/or blogs.

I tend to view blogs as standalone sites by an individual. John Gruber’s Daring Fireball, in my mind, is a definitive “blog.” A blog on the CNET site is not a blog. It’s a column by a writer. CNET and other web publications use blog because it’s a trendy term.

To me blog dilutes the credibility of any news posted on it. An article is based on news usually by a credible journalist. At least there’s a lot better chance of it.

Personally I HATE the word Blog.

Blogs are generally commentary based too, not necessarily factual news.

    Ditto.

...which makes it more like a typical “column” in a newspaper or magazine; a personal perspective on a particular subject. I doubt if blogs were ever intended to be like the “factual news” in newspapers. However, the “blogosphere” has been very good at pointing out the foibles of typical news outlets who, so it seems, are not as good with “factual news” as they would lead us to believe.
