gEdit? and to think I’ve been using that most of the time…
no not netbeans, I don’t like its windows counterpart… rather use aptana. (personal opinion…)

+1 for PHP Designer.

I use Notepad++ with several plug-ins (Functions List, Explorer, Webedit, XBrackets Lite and HTML tag) for my main PHP/Javscript/CSS coding. I also use Metapad (as an excellent replacement for Notepad, which is very small and quick) for (very) quick simple text editing.
I use Firebug and Web Developer for CSS/Javscript development, along with Developer Tools for IE7/8.
I use Fling File Transfer for automated FTP synchronisation between my development PC and my web server. I keep FileZilla in reserve for any non day-to-day FTP duties.
For image editing, I use IrfanView for general image viewing/resizing. Paint.Net as an alternative to Photoshop (although Photoshop is much better, but takes ages to load). PNG Monster to further reduce file sizes of PNG images.
For web site map creation, I use Inspyder Sitemap Creator.
Best of all, this stuff is all free and is for Windows.

ah atlast I found a reliable editor for my ubuntu!
Currently using netbeans, using its git and sql plugins, really helps a lot connecting me to oracle servers. its easy and I manage to use its autocomplete functionality with codeigniter!
+1 for netbeans!

I use several editors.
For my projects I use NetBeans. It is definitely NOT lightweight but you cant get all functionality it presents for nothing… Check out these pages for more information: http://netbeans.org/features/php/index.html && http://netbeans.org/features/index.html . I’ve tried some php plug-ins for Eclipse but they worked terribly slow…
For really small tasks(up to 5 files for example) I use Geany. That one is really lightweight but with many functions.
They are both open source, running on many operating systems. I’m using Ubuntu but I’ve tested them under Windows and they work just fine…

I use aptana, it is good editor, I can edit files directly on ftp, I like highlighting html tags, e.g. when I click on <div> it highlights </div> but I miss code completion.
And one thing I hate in aptana - when I delete file, I must expend directory tree again. And also I must expand it every time I open the aptana - it doesn’t remember which folder was opened.

I use EditPlus for Windows and Linux gedit or vi, but I would love to see a port in EditPlus for Linux because it is by far my favourite editor.
