I’m sure some or all of what I’m about to mention has been brought up, but I’m going to say it anyway because I’m not sure how to search for this exact subject!

We purchased an EE forum license over a year ago. We never used it for the project we were expecting to use it for, but we’ve finally got a client who wants a forum so we figured we may as well put that $100 purchase to good use! However, I went to my download area, and found that I can no longer get the file without paying extra.

I realize that you don’t want users to get the latest-and-greatest versions in perpetuity without paying more money. But why not let me download the last version that was released within my one-year period? I have no idea if I even downloaded that software, I just paid for that license along with seven regular EE licenses.

(Another thing is that I wish you would help us keep track of them better. I just see a list of downloads and licenses on that page, but there’s no correlation to what I’ve purchased and what site it was intended for. I realize I can leave a note, but don’t you ask me what domain I’m using it for at the time of purchase? Why not leave that info there where I can see it? I had expected it would be on the receipt, but it is not.)

In short, I’m stuck because I don’t feel it’s right of you to ask for $20 to download software I purchased 13 months ago. What can be done about this?

    Hi, Raymond,

When you purchase ExpressionEngine or an add-on, you get access to download that software for one-year.  After that you have to renew.  We do not keep older versions available.

As for tracking them better - we recently improved our store with many new options including the ability for you to add your own notes to each license.  Simply click “notes” in the Notes column and add your own comments there.  You can fill that out during purchase as well and the “domain” is no longer requested at purchase time, having been replaced with the notes option.

At this point, to download the software you will simply need to renew the download access for that software item.

Post back if you have any other questions.

OK, thanks for the reply Lisa. I don’t agree with that policy, but I guess I have no choice!
