I am creating a website that will support English, Dari, and Pashto. I am using the Multiple Site Manager that is successfully running three separate wesbites using a single EE install. I have also configured the Dari and Pashto EE sites’ fields to use right-to-left text direction. However, this does not seem to be working as expected. The only difference I see when activating the right to left option for any field is that the field becomes right-justified; text within this field is still written left to right, but it is only right-justified.

Can anyone confirm this? I am using Safari 3, Safari 4, and Firefox 3. Is there a true “right to left” writing solution in EE as I thought there was?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums, codeguy.

I’ve asked for clarification from the development team. I know there are EE based sites out there that use right to left text direction, but this isn’t something I’ve had direct experience with.

Thanks Sue! I’ve just recently started using EE, and I love it. I look forward to hearing what you find out.

I think that is probably all that’s gonna happen.

text within this field is still written left to right, but it is only right-justified.

Are you actually writing Dari or are you trying it with western characters? It doesn’t really matter if the field is set left-to-right or right-to-left, the direction the letters are inserted depends on the characters used (whether they belong to a rtl-language or not).

Try entering איז ענדלעך ארויסגעקומען or something.

    silenz,

Thank you for your reply. I was using western characters, which is probably why the text is only appearing right-justified and not literally right to left as intended. This is the first job where I have had to provide non-western character support, so it is certainly a learning experience. I will have my client test this with actual Dari characters and post the result here. Thanks for your help.
