I have received the following notice from my webhosting company about deactivating PHP4 and migrating to PHP5:

    Dear customer,

Currently you have the possibility to choose between the usage of PHP4 or PHP5 in your Control Panel. However, as the developers of PHP have discontinued the support for version 4 end of 2007 already and to avoid potentially occurring security vulnerabilities on your website, we are going to deactivate version 4 for our Shared servers on April 14th, 2009.

Please check if your scripts developed in PHP4 will also work with version PHP5 before this date and adapt them if needed. Further information regarding a migration from PHP4 to PHP5 can be found at http://www.php.net/manual/en/migration5.php.

You can check the compatibility of your scripts with PHP5 by changing the standard PHP version for your account in your Control Panel. Please note that switching the PHP version will result in overwriting your .htaccess file. If you have edited your .htaccess file, you should backup it before the switch.

Basically, the question from me, as a non-professional who has learned enough to create an EE site but is not skilled in PHP etc, is - do I need to care about this? Will my site, which has been developed in EE 1.6.4 and is now being (hopefully) updated to 1.6.7, be affected if I do as they say and migrate to PHP5?  Or will I need to make any changes to anything in EE?

I would be most grateful for advice. Thanks.

EE will happily work with PHP 5. No changes need to be made by our customers.

Many thanks - I hoped you might say that.

You should still keep out a watchful eye for something to break (third party plugis, eg, or perhaps some url rewriting), but I have been using EE on PHP 5 for quite some time with zero issues.
