Hi Guys..First post and a novice so please be patient. I have tried to install EE on my laptop for local testing. My setup is as follows:

    Windows XP Pro
    IIS V5.1
WAMP Server (Not using Apache-just for MySql and phpMyAdmin)

I have setup an SQL database and set permissions on all files as suggested and also allowed the IUSR_XXX account to have full permission to the web site. When I go through the install process it seems to install fine but when it comes to the last page that “should” say “Installation Succeddful” I am presented with a blank page. PLease Help!!!!
Also, I tried to install it to and Ubuntu machine running apache and MySql. This installation seemed to go fine, but when I was going through my lessons and we got to the “Memebr” section I realised that the “Member” module is not installed. I tried to search for it in the modules section and was informed that it is automatically installed by default. If I try to naviagate to member/login, I get no response????

    Thanks in advance Guys

Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums, lazypaddy.

First things first. EE only works with a MySQL database.

Which version of EE did you install? The free version doesn’t have a membership component on the front end of the site. Can you double check that is the version you’re using?

Look at the bottom of any Control panel page.

    Hi Sue
Thanks for the reply. I found that problem with the memebers section alright. I was using the free version…I’ve installed my licenced version now and all is working in that reagrd. With regards to not being able to install on IIS. I was using MySQL, IIS on Windows XP Pro. I have also tried it on Windows SBS Server 2003 on IIS. Both showed the same results. When I go throught the install, everything goes fine right up to the last page where I fill out all the details and click next, it brings me to an “empty” page with just the EE logo on top and a blue background. Taking note from the Apach installs this should be the page saying that the installation is sucessful and to make sure to delete the install.php etc. Please note that EE installs perfect on both of these machines in Apache??? I have made all of the security check with Windows and IIS i.e. I have given the IUSR_xxxx full permissions, enable anonymous access etc. Please help. If it was my choice I’d leave it on Apache, but work want me to integrate it alongside the existing IIS intranet.

It is certainly possible to install EE using IIS (though I don’t recommend it), but we won’t be able to assist you with setting up and configuring the server correctly. As a rule, EE “only” needs a webserver + PHP + MySQL; it doesn’t have to be Apache.

My suggestion would be to go to /system/utilities and fill out dbtest.php, then visit that in your browser, and see if it can connect successfully.

I’d also prefer a MS SQL version but meanwhile I found the instructions at

useful for running WAMP on IIS.  I still have to manually enter the new port number in the URL sometimes but all worked well during the install.
