I have been looking for a genuinely good page screen shot grabber for a long time - recently Fireshot has been updated and on installing it in Firefox it looks the bees knees (not that bees have knees but if they did…). However being an old cynic I wondered what other people s experiences of this software was good. I am aware Fireshot had some big issues early last year but that seems to have been fixed. Please spill the beans.

i think you use a mac right? if you’re using a pc. a screenshot is a simple as pressing ‘print screen’ and if you only want to shoot the app your focused on , ‘alt print screen’ will do that.

You can paste that into ms paint even, then save as a jpg.

In OS X you can of course use the following (clipped from wikipedia)...

    * Command-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen, and save it as a file on the desktop
    * Command-Shift-4, then select an area: Take a screenshot of an area and save it as a file on the desktop
    * Command-Shift-4, then space, then click a window: Take a screenshot of a window and save it as a file on the desktop
    * Command-Control-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen, and save it to the clipboard
    * Command-Control-Shift-4, then select an area: Take a screenshot of an area and save it to the clipboard
    * Command-Control-Shift-4, then space, then click a window: Take a screenshot of a window and save it to the clipboard

In Leopard, the following keys can be held down while selecting an area (via Command-Shift-4 or Command-Control-Shift-4):

    * Space, to lock the size of the selected region and instead move it when the mouse moves
    * Shift, to resize only one edge of the selected region
    * Option, to resize the selected region with its center as the anchor point

Or if you are trying to grab a whole page in a browser window I just print to PDF normally for that, then convert from PDF to whatever?  What specifically are you trying to screen capture?

    Fireshot is PC only.

Mac or PC there’s probably 100 ways (each) of capturing screen and window shots, none of which are perfect. I use three or four, depending on the requirements.

I’ll 3rd the use of Paparazzi on the Mac. Very easy to use and does a great job.

Thanks everyone! I use LittleSnapper on the Mac at home and I am real happy with that as part of my workflow but at work I am using a PC. For years I had been using ALT Print Screen to capture web windows and then I would crop it and annotate it in Firefox which can be a little laborious.
Yesterday I downloaded Fireshot for Firefox and quickly found it very useful as I could grab a series of shots and then go back through and annotate them before saving as a set of images to a folder which I zipped and sent to the client. Fireshot captured all video and flash as well and that was impressive as most of software I had previously tried (including early versions of Fireshot) could not do this.

Snagit looks good and it is possible I can get that installed at work (everything is locked down big time) but for an add-on in Firefox Fireshot is looking very good.
