I have what I think is a similar problem. And odd as hell.

We have an event calendar for which I created a custom event date field.  For one particular entry, which should be set to 7pm, it won’t take the change but stays at 8:00pm.

To make it even stranger, it will let me set it to 6:59pm, but if I used 7:01pm, it changes to 8:01pm.  Huh?

It must be a DST issue because it happens to be on 3/7/09 which is the day before we switch, but I don’t know how to make sure that one entry is OK without messing with any others.

There’s an event on the very next day that works fine.

I have nothing in the Server Offset field, “no” selected on Daylight Savings Time” and “yes” selected on “Honor daylight savings…”

    grizzlies:

Interesting.  Do you have ‘DST Active on Date of Entry’ set under the options tab when you edit the entry?

I didn’t.  So I tried toggling it and it doesn’t seem to have an affect on the behavior. Still switches to 8:00 (when I type 7:00) regardless of whether that box is checked.

    grizzlies,

for your custom event date field, do you have it’s associated dropdown set to Localized or Fixed?

By default it’s localized, but I’ve tried changing it (and just tried it again) with no difference.

There’s a similar thread where an admin suggested it might be that one of the servers that are sharing the hosting has an incorrect time which causes the change at the times that you’re on that server.

I thought that might be it until I realized that it always changes to 8pm (when I enter 7) and doesn’t happen on the event before or after.

grizzlies - times and dates are a tricky business. You may need to experiment some with this.  Please review this kb entry for some ideas here.

Thanks.  I remember reading that KB article a while back (when I was having and issue with the timestamp on RSS items) and I couldn’t understand the advantage of setting an offset on the server vs. selecting/deselecting DST in the user account.

Either way, I have to figure out how to solve this for this one entry. If I change any global settings, won’t it adjust all other currently correct entries?

grizzlies, can you take me step by step through what you’ve done, including the type of custom field, so that we can try to re-create this?  You mentioned the date is on the day that DST changes, so I want to see that is part of the equation.

Ultimately, it should not be, because EE doesn’t have any sort of pre-set list of DST, that’s why we have to set it up ourselves. =)  But it’s worth checking anyway.

And you’re sure it’s just this one entry? If you create a new entry in the same way, does this occur?  What about other times, like 4 or 5 pm, or 10 or 11pm?

I created a custom Date Field to show event dates (as opposed to the date the event was posted).

    Admin/System Prefs/Localization Settings:
    Server time (UTC -6:00)
    No server offset
    Daylight Saving Time -  No
Honor the Daylight Saving Time setting associated with each weblog entry?  -  Yes

There is a 3/7 game at 7pm (CST).

When I try to set that time on the custom field, it changes (after hitting Quicksave) to 8:00.  If I try 7:01, it changes to 8:01…  The only thing I can get to stay is 6:59.

The problem persists whether I have ‘DST Active on Date of Entry’ selected or not.

I don’t have an issue with the Entry Date (Date tab) time however.

Here in Memphis, our DST starts that night, March 8, at 2am. 5 hours after the start of the event.

As for if it’s the only one that does it, I haven’t done a full check on all entries (about 30 right now), but the events on 3/4 and 3/8 don’t have the issue. And a few others before and after.

One more thing to have you try:

Honor the Daylight Saving Time setting associated with each weblog entry?  -  Yes - set that to No.

Yeah, I should’ve mentioned that the only reason it was set to “yes” was because I had been testing to see if that had any effect.  I’ve changed it back to “no” and still no change in behavior.

One update: The entry date (Date tab) is actually changing as well, just not when I save as the custom date field is doing. So the entry date looks correct when I save, but if I click out of the entry and then come back to it, it shows 8:00.

Setting it to 6:59 also solves it there.

I don’t know that it’s totally in play here, but I’d like to see if we can get you on the current version of EE.  There have been important security updates since 1.6.5, and with an update, we can rule out file corruption.

    Thanks,

FYI: doing this caused my RSS feed to display all times an hour behind. Working on resolving it.

I’ll try to block out some time in the next day or two to do the upgrade. I’ll check back when it’s done.

    Thanks.
