Are you sure you are editing the forum template that you are viewing on the site?

No, I’m not sure if I’m editing the correct forum theme.  That’s part of what’s driving me crazy.  I don’t see where I can tell which theme is being called.  As far as I can see, there’s just this url that magically corresponds to the Forum module through some invisible means.  It’s a total black box to me.  Maybe this qualifies as normal, and yes, I’m new with this app, but I’m used to more transparency.  The time it takes to find where and how EE is handling requests is sufficient enough for us to weigh whether or not our dept. wants to continue using it as our CMS.

If you haven’t changed the default forum templates, you can tell which one you’re viewing by looking towards the bottom of the page. There should be a drop down list with a list of all the available forum themes. For instance, here I’m using the Support theme.

    Does that help at all?

Nope, sorry, that’s not terribly useful :(  The site I inherited has been cleansed of any reference to EE, but more importantly, tracing down how EE is handling this whole section of the site remains COMPLETELY OBFUSCATED.  Sorry, but this is completely frustrating me right now.  I need to pound some nails, and instead I’m trying to fix the hammer.

Here’s what I’ve found which seems to be relevant (correct me if I’m wrong):
in the control panel—> Modules—> Discussion Forum—> Forum Management—> Default Preferences—> Theme Preferences

There’s a listing there for the default forum theme, which was the one I was editing (to no effect).  We only have one forum installed, and there’s a theme listed for it.  I still would love to see the documentation that specifies how and when each of those ~100 mini-templates are used.

everettg_99 - let’s back up and figure out exactly what you should be editing.  If you go to

Modules ›  Discussion Forum ›  Your Forum Name ›  Forum Board Preferences

and expand Theme Preferences - what theme is chosen there?

Now, in the forum templates, if you’re listing multiple themes, please make sure you are editing the theme corresponding to that drop-down.

The 100-ish mini-templates build small portions of the overall forum experience and come together to render out the design in its entirety.

Yep, I’m editing the correct theme… but all that means is that I’m editing the correct group of hundreds of mini-templates… I still can’t tell which mini-template I’m supposed to be editing.  I’m still not seeing any changes in our page after changing the mini-templates.  That’s the sound of me stabbing in the dark.  If I can get this resolved, I’ll probably just delete the forum.  It’s probably not worth it.
