    Thanks Sean, the templates at that link use Mootools, Mubs my buddy at mostInspired just posted his JQuery ported version of those templates, I think he’s planning to publicize them a bit more somewhere within his network of sites, but for now you can find the JQuery fluid 960.gs templates linked here.

    I feel like adding the tax time saying… “I’ve got People”, I did nudge Mubs just a little on those via twitter 😊

    Thanks for posting that Crssp, I love the idea of a fluid 960 but I am not familiar at all with Mootools, glad to see there is a jQuery port.  :cheese:

    It seems like it’s only been a couple of years since the move from 760 pixels or so to 960 pixels. How much longer before there’s a defacto standard that’s even wider? And what will it be?

    I’m not sure why the math for 960.gs doesn’t just go on, add the next bigger grid and container class 960 + 80 = 1040 (like the tax form). I’ve gotten used to having photoshops grids and guidelines showing 320 pixel with 4 sub sections. I guess the ideal jump would be adding a whole ‘nother 320px jump so 1280px really.

    I did the math on 1040 but only because I wanted a slimmer gutter and slightly tighter margins. I found a nice ,[‘Verdana’,’‘,’‘,’‘,’‘,’‘,’‘],[0,0,0,0,0,0,0],[0,0,0,0,0,0,0],[1,2,2,2,2,2,2],[10,16,16,16,16,16,16],[0,0,0,0,0,0,0],[0,0,0,0,0,0,0],[4,20,16,22,800],{},[0,1]]]grid designer which helps with the math.

    For my next generation of layouts I’d like something with a little more flexibility and longevity than 960.

    I would like to do a baseline grid for text, but it seems like there are still too many pitfalls where that’s not going to work out anyways. Especially if you have a client site where they may be uploading images. It sure looks nice when everything lines up vertically, but I haven’t ventured into that just yet.

    Fluid design is ok, elastic using EM’s is always another school too. Don’t forget about going smaller even, to do a mobile version of a site. That’s around the corner I think as a mainstay of essential items for a site.
    So many youth are going the route of having a cell phone being their only device.
    At work are involved in an AP test of mobile services on news sites.

    This is probably better as a stand-alone post, but I would like to know how many EE developers are creating a “mobile site” for clients? The simplicity and elegance of the AP Mobile News and USA Today iPhone apps is inspiring. And, potentially, additional billable hours.
