What happened to the EE site?

Just wondering what happened to all the ExpressionEngine sites such as this one, EngineHosting and EllisLab. Was it just me or were they all done for quite a while just now?

Just wondering if anyone else could access them or whether it was a network error here in reaching America?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Mark,

Must be a network thing. Both sites are accessible from here in Hawaii (when we have electricity).

I sometimes wonder (and worry) about the viability of small businesses I favor. My wife and I have a running streak of closing restaurants. A dozen times over the past 10 years or so we’ve frequented a local restaurant which we like, only to return a month later and find the business has completely closed (Bobby McGee’s, American Bistro, Tower Grill, Sam Choy’s, and many others).

Despite the quality of the product, the resourcefulness of the staff, and a growing base of customers, EE is a small business. Many of us depend on the EE product for part of our livelihood. We live in difficult economic times. Many businesses are closing their doors. I can certainly imagine how you felt when you tried to access some EE/EE related sites and nothing was there. Scary.

I think it must have been our router or something then as I tried a traceroute and pings too and nothing came back. Could still access other sites in America so not really too sure what went on there although I do realise that there are many many different routes that can be taken to sites. Guess there was just something up with one of them.

I didn’t really think that EE had gone bust though as I’m sure that the team would let us all know if that was going to happen before they shut up shop as they’re just that kind of team. Very forward about everything so wasn’t too worried there 😉

Thanks for letting me know that you could access it though as now I know that it was probably just a router problem or something like that and can investigate on this end a little further.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Mark,

No errors reported from any of our US, Asia, or European testing locations on reaching any sites here.  On the EngineHosting side of the business I can safely say we are still seeing great growth rates in our business.  Generally we see this in either in up or down swings in the global economy though, at high points people are doing more projects, have larger budgets, at low points companies are cutting back, usually on staff, and have more projects that need outsourced hosting, or IT expertise with limited budgets.

Good businesses tend to do well in either good or soft economic climates, as customers drop cheap services and go for quality and value.

    Hi Nevin,

Thanks for the info. Reckon there must have been something up with our internet provide then. They are absolute pants so I wouldn’t be too surprise on this one! 😉

    Best wishes,

That would do it.  Though our Minneapolis data center provider’s feed from Level3 shows no drop in overall traffic coming over it today (nor do Qwest or Verizon/UUNet showing any increases because of alternative routing going on), so I am going to guess it may have specifically been affecting certain peering connections between Level3 and other providers at those specific locations.  We had relatively few (2?) reports of issues of clients connecting into sites hosted here, and no reports from our two separate 3rd party monitoring systems, though I think I will post a link to this story as well for our clients, thank you.

EE disappeared for me for a few hours Sunday night, along with ArsTechnica and a few other sites. A couple of hours later and all is well again.

Sheesh not them again!!! We’ve had sites go down due to them causing us major headaches. For being one of the biggest providers in the world they really are a pain at times!!

Nope I never disregard anything you say Ingmar as it is always valid. Will just make me read it more closely 😉
