Its the 19th and we promised a 2.0 update. Work on 2.0 continues to progress smoothly. There are now 1 and a half 1.x modules to convert to 2.0. One of them will be fairly straight forward, the other is tricky because we’ve set a new direction for it and we’re working through the best way to implement it.

Since we’ve given ourselves some extra time to round 2.0 out we also added a major new feature to the Control Panel. We’re not ready to say what it is yet except that it works great with the new File Manager and Derek Allard did most of the heavy lifting. You can bribe him with cookies and beer to tell you what it is. He won’t do it, but he’ll appreciate the cookies beer!

Here’s what to expect next in terms of 2.0 news.

I don’t like your title, my heart sank when I thought that you were only 25% of the way done with writing EE 2.0. Damn you. Now I lost focus.

Oh, and you forgot to make those images in that last update clickable for the high res versions 😉

    Ooh, good teaser, Les.

We’ve almost got the interview licked, folks - and as soon as its done you’ll be able to see a full screenshot I expect. Masthead, logo, details - the whole metaphor…

I realize there’s no naming here on purpose, and I can accept that - but I’m curious nonetheless (as a dev), when you say “new direction” do you mean product-wise, or code-wise?

glad to hear it’s going well! Any chance we can be told what modules are left… but not which one is making a major turn in another direction. If not cool, it’s still good to hear about the good progress.

And I agree with Andru about the title… I thought you were less than 50% done… but I am ok now!

Well, it would be both. Basically we’re looking at the features the module provides and looking at other ways to accomplish those features in EE directly versus an add-on approach. Ideally we’d like to eliminate the module completely in favor of accomplishing the same or similar features in EE v. maintaining the add-on.

lol, I had no idea the title might convey that message. I assure you we are way past the 50% mark. In software development its been our experience that the last bit is often the most time consuming and that’s where we are now, the last, most time consuming bits.

So, is EllisLabs based in Bend? If so, do you have trainings in Portland?

Rick (owner/President) and I live in Bend, but everyone else is scattered across the globe. If you need training in Portland you might look up Kurt and his team at NetRaising who are based in Portland. Also, you can find online training at EE Screencasts, and Train-ee offers online and class style training for EE as well.

Awesome, thanks for the update? Will the example site have a dynamic navigation or simply just pulling info from dynamic areas (e.g. events, forum, news) into a home page? I hope it does because there are very few sites out there that work like that…
