So far, I have been using the Gallery module for my galleries, and for the most part I am happy with how it works. Now, I just saw a post on the First Impressions thread about 2.0 that kind of makes me wonder if there will be a Gallery module in 2.0. Now, I know one shouldn’t read too much into “No answer”, since I gather it is supposed to mean just that. 😉 However, if there’s even a slim risk that the Gallery module won’t be in 2.0, I definitely need to start thinking hard about how to deal with my current situation. Which brings me to two questions:

    1) Would it be possible to somewhat automatically convert a gallery using the Gallery module into a gallery using the Weblog module? Has anyone done anything like that?

    2) What things that the Gallery module can do can’t be done with a Weblog? I am going to be adding a few more galleries soon, and if there’s a risk of the module going away, I might have to look at doing those with Weblogs.

Linda - I have what I hope is a pretty comprehensive review of the two approaches in this article on Train-ee.

Very useful overview. 😊 Some good reasons for using the Weblog module, of which searchable content and comment moderation would be of use to me. However, the file organization of the Gallery module, and in some cases also the batch processing, are pretty much invaluable. I couldn’t ever see managing the gallery content I have without the category-specific folders.

Guess I have to cross my fingers for the module staying. 😊 Or, if it is somehow merged with the weblog module (or channel module, I guess), that that functionality stays (and that there’s an auto-converter).

    Thanks again. 😊
