Update 2009/11/25: We’re making a few significant changes to our release plans based on the feedback both in this thread and by private email.

That means some of the information is out of date. Please refer to the FAQ for the latest information and we’ve opened a new ExpressionEngine 2.0 Public Beta FAQ for additional questions.

    Thanks!

I’m curious…I’ve entered the 10+ tier for quantity discounts…Will the same quantity discounts exist for EE2.0? And furthermore…will I still be entitled to the discount I am currently getting, but on EE2.0 purchases?

The Volume Discount Pricing structure is changing. It will still work the same way but the discounts are not as deep or the levels as close together as they currently are. The old discount levels will not be grandfathered over.

To be clear, your purchases will be applied to the new structure so you won’t be starting over. For example, if you have 10 licenses, those licenses will be applied to the new structure, but the old discount rates will not carry over after December 1st. We also won’t be releasing the new structure prior to December 1st.

Only two things I found strange and need clarification concern the Freelance edition…
    1) Can’t convert a 1.x commercial to a Freelance - somewhat implies there will be more goodies. But if there are more I would think you’d want everyone of us to convert from our current Commercial editions.
    2) Freelance will have a different feature set - could imply less as it’s cheaper kind of like 1.x Core+ or more.

I’ll definitely be keeping my ears tuned for more info on this.

Sounds good! Thanks Leslie…One more question: If I choose to buy copies of EE 1.6.x after December 1, will I still be entitled to the current discount?

What about the requirements for ExpressionEngine 2.0. Are they the same as what’s listed here?

EE 1.6.8 will not be available for purchase separately from EE 2.0 RC after December 1st. After 12/1 when you purchase EE, you are purchasing EE 2.0 RC, which includes access to EE 1.6.8. A license purchase entitles you to use one or the other for a project and if you start with EE 1.6.8 you can easily upgrade to 2.0 RC without an additional purchase. That means that the current Volume Discount Programs is being replaced on 12/1.

They are just about the same, though I’ll see about adding a requirements item to the FAQ tomorrow.

Its #2. We’re aiming for a sweet spot that offers more than EE Core but is not the full version.

There was no ‘reply’ or ‘comment’ button below EllisLab president’s posting re EE 2.0 and upgrade info. Looks like that ticket was closed instead of allowing people to ask questions?

What does this sentence mean, exactly in plain English:
“If you have an active Download Account for your ExpressionEngine license you may upgrade from ExpressionEngine 1.x to ExpressionEngine 2.0 RC for the retail price difference ($50).”

Does it mean the upgrade cost for someone with active Download Account is $50?
If not then what is the “retail price difference”?

Hi, DavSam - that thread is still open, so I’m going to merge this there. If you still can not respond please email us over at sales and we’ll figure that out.

    Yes it does.

MSM was mentioned in the FAQ. Does this mean MSM feature is available in RC?
