Bug #23223 Clarification Requested

Can’t add categories if channel has existing layout

Version: 3.5.10 Reporter: obfuscode

This is an archived bug report. If you are experiencing a similar issue, upgrade to the latest release and if that does not solve the problem, submit a new bug report

If you have an existing channel layout and and have no category groups or categories, if you create a new category group and categories, it does not show up in the channel layout editor. The only fix is to delete your existing channel layout and add a new one.

  • I’m not able to replicate testing on 3.5.11. Does it only happen if you have no category groups at all when you created the layout? And I assume the empty category tab does still show in the the layout editor but it’s just empty?

You’re certain you did assign the category group to the channel and it had at least 1 category in it?

And the category doesn’t show on either the layout editor or the publish page?

  • I am running into this issue as well.

If I create a new category and assign it to a channel that has custom tabs in the layout, the category will not show up in either the layout editor or the publish page.

I tried unassigning one of my categories that was visible (added before I created the custom tab layout) and then reassigning it, and that category also will not show up in the layout editor or publish page now.

I was able to assign both these categories to channels with layouts that only use the default tabs, and the categories show up as expected then. I suspect the issue is related to the use of custom tabs.

As the original poster said, deleting and recreating the layout is a workaround.

  • Coming back to add that I found my missing categories. Apparently new categories are always added to the third tab in the layout, no matter what that tab actually is. I was looking on the first tab and the categories tab (which is not third anymore). I don’t know if this is really a bug or if it’s more a usability/workflow/documentation issue.
