When updating from 2.11.8 to 2.11.9, the EE system update require()s add-ons’ upd.addon.php file causing PHP error because it’s not instantiated properly.
Here is a screenshot of the EE update wizard with a backtrace showing it’s requiring the upd.matrix.php file:
