Upgrading from v2, got this on the v3.0.0 update:
Oops, there was an error
Unable to connect to your database using the configuration settings found in the following file: config/config.php file. Please correct the settings so that the update can proceed.
Turns out the database password started with $$ and when the database settings were altered via the config, that resulted in part of the password getting stripped. Then of course it couldn’t connect and you’d get that error.
Note- this happened despite using single quotes on the password.
