    Hi,

Im trying to go to version 2 but before i need to convert my database into utf8. This has been done but for some reason now it does not find my username from BD. i looked to be sure, and my account is there, and the username is what i have tried to use.

    More info:
i have a different database that is converted into utf8 from 8859-1
i have system folder that is named differently and inside it i have fixed config and config_bak files to point into new database (utf8).

So, when i go into this test-system admin page (example.com/system_uft8/) and hit my username and password the system says that it can not find my username from database. But: it is there.

So what might be the issue?

    Thanks

    EE1.7.1 in use

EDIT: this is done because if i run the normal upgrade my database goes nuts, meaning that after upgrading all the scandinavian letters are changed into ?-marks. So therefore im first changing DB into utf8 cos i dont know other way to avoid the problems with the scandiletters after upgrading.

    Hi, Pete.

How big is your database? what is the collation set to? Is it the same for all the tables?

    Hi Sue,

    It’s over 100mb, and collation is utf8_general_ci

the original DB is latin1_swedish_ci but it does not convert into utf8 (skandi-letter problem) when upgrading.

I do hope i get some sort of solution to this problem as soon as possible cos i need to upgrade finally my main site into version 2.

    Thanks,
    - Pete

    Pete,

what are your largest tables in the db? What is bulking it up to 100MB?
If we could get a copy of it from you we could try and replicate this locally.
If those large tables weren’t of an consequence to the test then we could use the db without them

Hi, forum posts are nearly 50MB but how can the size matter?

    Pete,
I mention size in relation to you actually sending us the database. 100MB is a fairly hefty db to download on this end. If you can upload it to a location for us then fair enough. I was trying to minimize the effort needed on your part and try and figure out an upgrade path for you. Make sense?

So you basicly ask me to send you all my user data and such? Not so happy about giving around 2000 member account details for others to see.

Btw, i trust EE that much that i can go via the official way (form) and ask for you to look into my site and see for yourself if there is something that might cause my problems, this might be the first thing to do before looking deeper into DB? (meaning i create an account as super admin for you and you look into it?)

I really really want to go to version 2 but because your script messes up my database during the upgrade i can not do that :/

    Thanks

    Hi FinPete,

What steps did you take to convert this database to UTF-8? Is your username made up of some Swedish characters?

    Cheers

    Greg
