Just purchased and installed the latest version of the Forums Module. Posted my first thread and I receive this error when I try to go to the thread:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: format_characters() in /nfs/c01/h02/mnt/38661/domains/thebaseballpage.com/html/office/modules/forum/mod.forum_core.php on line 3620

I am running EE version 1.63

    What is the problem?

You cannot run the latest version of the forum module with an earlier version of EE. Please upgrade EE to version 1.6.6.

hofboone, make sure you have synced up your EE version with your new forum purchase.

Can you upgrade to 1.6.6 and see if that fixes it?

Ingmar and Sue, thanks for the tip.  I’m updating to 1.66 right now.  Can you recommened the best method for backing up the database?

I’ve used PHPMyAdmin successfully on many client sites to back up the database.

Thanks, Sue, that’s what I ended up doing. I’ve used phpMyAdmin a lot, and in teh past I exported a database to a SQL file to back it up.  This database was so large it kept timing out when I did that. So, I created a new database in phpMyAdmin and copied the data and structure of my EE db to that. FYI to those out there who may have to do this.

    Peace

Whatever works. Great workaround. 😊 But more importantly, did you get a chance to upgrade to 1.6.6 yet?

I’ve successfully updated to version 1.66 and my forums work.  Didn’t have to re-install them or do anything, and my database is fine.  Very nice! Thanks again.

Glad things are working again. Don’t hesitate to post again if needed.
