Is there a limit on the number of manually-entered options in a custom field drop-down list?  If I enter a few, everything is fine.  But if I try to update the custom field with all of my options (240), I get the message copied below, and the update is not made.

    Kernon,

What version/build are you running?  Both values can be found in the footer of your control panel.

    Keron,

I’m not able to replicate.  what kind of data are you inputting?

It was the names of all of the various countries around the world.

What I did to circumvent the problem was to trim the list down to just the ones that I’m guessing might actually be used.  The shorter collection worked.

If you wish, please feel free to mark this as closed.

    Hey Keron,

I’m happy you have a working solution, but if it’s okay with you I’d like to try to do a little digging in to see what is causing this error for you.

If that’s okay with you, can you please give us a list of extensions you are running?

    Thanks,

I’m using the textile plug-in (for the wiki), and the forum and wiki modules, but that’s it.

Just to confirm, you have no actual Extensions installed in Admin -> Utilities -> Extensions Manager?

    What version/build are you running?

ha, sorry.  I missed that.  😉

Now do you have any problems with large templates or posts occasionally not saving?

No, I haven’t, but I also do not have large templates, and only a relatively small number of entries, none of which is extremely large.

As a quick test, can you please take that list of the 240 countries, and paste them into a template and an entry?  I’m curious to see if saving either causes it to bork.

    Thanks,

    Both of those worked.

I wonder if it was a sporadic glitch, although I recall trying it a couple of times and always getting exactly the same error (I remember worrying that I had corrupted the dB, but everything else was working fine). I’m disinclined to go back and try again since I have that part of the system finished and working.

okay cool.  I guess we can chalk it up to gremlins for the time being.  Please do me a favor, keep an eye on it and if you find this pop up again, please start a new thread related to this one, okay?

I’m closing this one out, but don’t hesitate to post again should anything else come up!
