I have another question. I bought the commercial Licence for EE. Now, I split my website from one huge to two. But what’s about the Licence? The licence says, a licence is for one website (or I misunderstood). But after my slit I have to several websites (a service site & portfolio + an artistic portfolio gallery, runs on an other domain, same server). Were is the Limit of this licence?

Now the technical Question: What’s the best way to get two sites with one installation? Can I use an other Template group for the second site?

It sounds like you just have multiple domains pointing to various aspects of the same site. Expression Engine allows you to run a single install with multiple domains, a single site with subdomains, or a multi-site with a single install, so long as they are all on the same server. Basically, the Multi-Site Manager handles multiple sites on a single install, and can be purchased to managed 3 sites at a time, then add additional when required. Or you can use the old instructions for creating subdomains, to point other domains to. You’ll want to read the instructions subdomains and multiple sites, as well as go through the wiki.

That was not my Question. I know how to handle domains and subdomains.

The license is for one installation of EE. Typically that is one domain, but you could run multiple domains with one installation, or only parts of a site.

If you need to install EE again, you need an additional license. If it’s non-commercial, you might be able to make do with a Personal license, or even the free version “EE Core”.

Personally, I would look into the Multi Site Manager; it was made for things like this.

Example: At the moment, I Have a Website with all my works. Now i want present my Artworks in a other way, so i want another design and a second domain to switch to the single artwork gallerie. It’s a similar site. Have not exact the same design (other CSS), but, of course, it’s the same person behind.

So, another try: What’s the best way to use several designs with one EE installation for different sites? Can I use several Template Groups for that?

Both sites are comemrcial. But there is no huge difference, It’s only to change the service between different target groups. So the the other Question is, where is here the Limit and range of the licence. I won’t have legal problems.

Let me repeat, as long as you don’t install EE a second time, this is fine with your license. That said, the supported method of presenting content at two different domains is to use the MSM. If you don’t want to use that, yes, it is possible to map different template groups to different domains, too, but we do not support it officially.

No, I won’t use the MSM because many people said me that this thing is really bad for the prize. They said, it have a lot of bugs and don’t works very fine.

I will try the circular method.

Do many people say that? Personally I think it’s amazing value for the price, and I am certainly not aware of “lots of bugs”, but whatever works for you… Are there any other unresolved Tech Support issues, or are we good to close this one out?
