This question is really for mac users…

The girlfriend has some homework that she needs to get done and I’d love to do some work on one of my websites tomorrow. Weather permitting, we’re heading to a local tea shop that has free wifi. I’ll be bringing my mac with me to the tea shop but I’m not just sure I’ll be able to test some of my style sheets to make sure they look OK in Internet Explorer.

So mac users, how do you test your pages in ie?

I’ve mentioned this once or twice before but ies4osx allows you to do just that.

Parallels for me - with 3 ‘versions’. IE6, IE7 and IE8 (plus the IE7 one has Firefox and Chrome installed also).

And I’ll be losing the IE6 one very soon.

Just as you would expect IE to… so terrible 😛.

There are also the online testers such as :

    Browsershots

    and

    Net Renderer

    and

    Browsercam

    I use those too.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

VMWare here. It was extremely easy to set up and runs great. Actually it works better than any windows machine I ever owned. They have a 30day trial that you could download.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve got full access to a vmware licensing as I’m a Network Administrator by day and manage our virtual environment at work. Parallels has always been an option. I gave the Darwine stuff a try but couldn’t manage to get everything that ie4osx required installed correctly I guess… I’m a Windows guy, don’t hate me. Looks like the online testers will suffice for today until I have more time to hang out and get this stuff installed correctly.

    Thanks again.

I use an old windows laptop with IE loaded, and the truly wonderful free Synergys software to share keyboard and mouse.

I use parallels on my home machine, and at work (where I’m still on an old G5) I use Windows Remote Desktop Connection to connect to a pc on our network that has multiple IE versions installed.

I’m going to second Mark’s call on http://browsershots.org - I’ve used this numerous times and love the fact that I can easily see what a page looks like in numerous browsers across numerous operating systems. Of course, you don’t have the ability to effectively “test” the page this way. For functional development testing, I have a Windows PC that runs Multiple IE (for IE6) as well as the various other browsers.

I am also going to second one of Mark’ suggestions - Browsercam - was the first in this market and I used to use it years ago and it was very good. However there is a cost associated and it might be cheaper in the long run to get a second hand laptop and set it up a a test suite machine.

I could never get the ies4osx to work either.

So I use parallels with IE6 and an IE7 standalone as well as browser shots.

I use Parallels, VMWare, and a Windows server I keep around that I Remote Desktop into. For a web service, I really like http://litmusapp.com/.
